Alfasud Giardinetta PDF Print E-mail

This Alfasud Giardinetta is probably the best I have seen locally in the last few years.

This car is a Giardinetta built in Brits, in the Republic of South Africa in 1983, a year before Alfa Romeo disinvested from the RSA in 1984.

Since then they have returned with imported models. In the intervening years it took some effort to maintain these old models in an acceptable state of roadworthiness.

According to the owner of this car it was bought in 1993 for ZAR 4,500-00. It was used as an everyday commuting vehicle for another 9 years.

In 2003 it was re-sprayed in its current colour the closest that could be found to the "fire-cracker" red that he 1984 Alfa Romeo 33. The dashboard was also redone.alfa sud

The colour is however much 'deeper' than the red of the Alfa 33, with a bit more maroon in it. Locally it is known as '"toffee-apple red".

To date the owner has spent approximately ZAR 9500-00 on the car which equates to approx. USD 1335-00 spent on the car including the purchase price.

Not bad for a near collectors item, don't you think?

Worcester Wheels Festival - 24 & 25 October 2008
Venue: Klein Plasie, Worcester

Last year was our first attempt to raise funds for the Pioneer School which is an extremely needy school for multi disabled children of all races by hosting the Worcester Wheels Festival. It was a hugely successful show and people from all over South Africa brought a variety of vehicles for display. This year we are again planning a very special weekend for all exhibitors and spectators.

I have to say that this will not just be an ordinary motor show. With live Entertainment and names like Rooies, Karlien Hurselman, Nadia Louw and Luhann, Merry-go-Round, fun fair and Horse Shows, Jumping Castles etc. You have to be there to experience it! this Festival is going to rock

Friday at 2pm the gates will open. The evening there will be a Food and Wine Festival. Kiddies will be entertained with DVD’S under adult supervision. Vehicle Exhibitors are welcome to bring their cars on Friday and pitch a tent free of charge for the night. Although the actual motor show only starts the Saturday. All cars must be parked and ready for display at 9am Saturday morning.

Saturday will be entertainment for everybody – For the car lovers there will be a variety of Old Cars, New Cars, Fast Cars, Tractors, Motor Bikes, and Toy-cars etc. If you think your vehicle is a show worthy one for example serious spray job, highly supped-up, impressive sound system or something someone else would like to see, please phone us urgently we would love to have your wheels on our show, show cars come in for free.

For the Stall-lovers there will be enough to look at for the whole day but we still need some more, if you know of anyone that would like to have a crafter, sweets, toys, food or whatever stalls on this festival please get them to contact us.

We sincerely hope you will mark your calendar in red to join us with so many other Car Lovers, country wide.

Entrance fees: Adults R40, scholars R20 and pre-school is free.

Why did we decide to make this our Charity Event??

At present there are 82 blind, 45 partially sighted, 7 deaf & blind, 27 multi disabled and 100 learning problem pupils in the school – thus a total of 261. At the moment 78 of these learners are totally dependent on the school in respect of scholarship, stationary, hostel accommodation, clothes, toiletries, pocket money etc.

Some of the car clubs have taken the initiative to donate old clothes, stationary, toiletries, food etc. If you feel the need to join in this gesture please get in contact with us.

Thinking behind the braking system PDF Print E-mail

Can anyone tell me what the thiniking was behind the design and placement of the braking system outside the gearbox instead of in the wheels?

does this not place extra stress on the drive shafts?
